Nov 5, 2007 (newstodate): The core of the current problems for Lufthansa Cargo to fly through Russian airspace on its route to their transit hub in Astana, Kazkahstan, is Russia's wish to see the carrier move the hub to Krasnoyarsk or Novosibirsk instead.
The Russian side has now given the carrier a temporary permission to fly through Russian airspace till November 15, allowing time for Lufthansa Cargo to reach a decision on the issue.
The routes used by Lufthansa Cargo to Astana and Almaty are not comprised by the catalogue of air routes in the Air Service Agreement between the two countries, and have so far been allowed only on special request for each flight.
