Nov 23, 2007 (newstodate): Norway har started preparations for expansion of Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
In the plan is the construction of a new passenger terminal slated for completion by 2012, and construction of a new, third runway is also considered with a timeframe between 2025 and 2030, sources say.
During the first 10 months of 2007, the airport generated a total of 16,174,000 passengers, up 7.4 percent, y-o-y.
Air cargo and mail grew by 11.2 percent to 80.171 tonnes, and the volume of aircraft movement was up 5.5 percent to 181,751.
The existing passenger terminal is designed for a maximum capacity of 17 million passengers annually, and already in 2006 the airport handled 17.7 million passengers.
