Nov 29, 2007 (newstodate): Only two months after its official opening, Norway's new Moss Rygge Airport has landed in a controversy over opening hours.
The Norwegian authorities have just ruled against an appeal by the airport to allow operations from 6.30 a.m. till 11.30 p.m., maintaining opening hours from 07.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m.
The airport has argued that this will cut off close to one-half of the operations by its airline launch customer, the lcc Norwegian.
The carrier has announced Rygge to become its new base for an initial route network comprising 14 destinations from February, 2008, including flights to Belgrade, Budapest, Istanbul, Palanga, Szczecin, and Warsaw.
From the start, the carrier will base two Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Rygge, with the first by start-up on February 14, 2008, and the second to join from March 13.
