Nov 6, 2007 (newstodate): Lufthansa considers Russia's temporary permit for Lufthansa Cargo to use Russian airspace en-route to Kazkahstan a first step.
Russia has allowed Lufthansa Cargo to resume operations till November 15 before which date a permanent solution should be found.
And Russia's aim is to force the carrier to move its hub operations from Astana, Kazkahstan, to Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
-The decision taken by the Russian authorities is one in the right direction. In the
interests of planning security, however, Lufthansa Cargo requires long-term and sustained permission to overfly Russia beyond 15 November, says Lufthansa in a statement.
-Moreover, Lufthansa is still of the view that the granting of over-flight rights cannot
be tied to demands that its cargo hub be re-located. Lufthansa Cargo will consider a re-location only if the operational and commercial prerequisites are given.
-Relocation of the hub to Krasnoyarsk is not possible in the short term on purely organisational grounds.
