Nov 27, 2007 (newstodate): Starting from December 5, 2007, Latvian carrier airBaltic will probably become the first legacy carrier to separate luggage charge from passenger fares.
-Separating luggage charges from the fare is an excellent way for passengers to save money if they wish to travel just with hand luggage, as opposed to bags that must be checked in. With short weekend trips becoming such a ubiquitous trend, there are increasing numbers of such passengers, says Bertolt Flick, airBaltic president and CEO.
So far only low-cost carriers including Ryanair have charged separately for passenger luggage.
