Nov 26, 2007 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport reports a decrease in cargo volumes by 46.8 percent in 2007.
-The bad total figure reflects a steep decrease of China transit shipments to Russia, says Olegs Korse, Baltic Cargo Center managing director.
-Long queuing time on the Latvian-Russian border plus stronger Customs control are taking a heavy toll on the traffic. Trucks are now spending three or four, and sometimes even five days waiting in line.
-Regular traffic including express mail has shown a positive trend, however, and grew by nine percent in January-October, comparing to 2006. There I would like to stress that figures published by the airport do not reflect airfreight carried by trucks, so the situation is not so bad in reality.
