Nov 8, 2007 (newstodate): Latvia's Daugavpils Airport is hoping for the launch of commercial domestic and international traffic by airBaltic.
As a first step, airBaltic has now opened a new airline office at the airport.
airBaltic opened its first domestic route from Riga to Liepaja in September, 2005, and has also seen traffic building up on its new routes from Liepaja to Hamburg and Copenhagen from May 9, 2007, with further plans for connections to Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki as well.
Daugavpils Airport, a former Russian airforce base with a runway of 2,500 m, has still not been modernised, but the regional government hopes for EU funding of the project.
