Nov 15, 2007 (newstodate): Krasnoyarsk Airport is struggling to become an international aviation and air cargo hub.
Situated near the trunk lines between the Far East and Europe, Krasnoyarsk Airport hopes to attract carriers to use the airport at a refuelling and technical stop on the long-haul routes.
Lately the airport has been dynamically promoted by Russia as a cargo hub for Lufthansa Cargo's freighter flights between Europe and the Far East, now transited through Astana, Kazakhstan.
Krasnoyarsk Airport is upbeat about its future cargo business.
The airport has presented a comprehensive project program to upgrade and expand facilities.
The airport reported a total of 99,000 tonnes of cargo in 2006, and expects to handle some 132,000 tonnes in 2007.
The airport estimates tonnage to grow to 199,000 in 2008, 259,000 in 2009 and 336,000 tonnes by 2010, ending up at 645,000 tonnes in 2015, the end of the current prognosis period.
