Nov 9, 2007 (newstodate): FedEx has selected Cologne Bonn Airport as its new hub for Central and Eastern Europe.
2010 will see the opening of a new cargo and sorting centre covering an area of 50,000 m² - a project that will mean an investment of around euro 70 million for the Airport company.
With the opening in May 2010, FedEx will transfer a section of its operations from Frankfurt to Cologne Bonn Airport, which will then be the major FedEx hub in Germany.
The FedEx decision comes in time to compensate for the shortfall of some 215,000 tonnes per year from the airport as Lufthansa Cargo and DHL move their operations to Leipzig.
