Nov 16, 2007 (newstodate): The EU-Russia Aviation Summit in Moscow, slated for November 16-17, was postponed on suggestion by the Russian party.
The summit should have cemented the opening of a fresh approach to solving the last remaining issues between the two parties, but as the Russian party has still not signed the agreement on abolishing Russia's en-route charges on the Siberian and polar air routes the summit would have proved futile.
No new date has yet been set for the summit, pending the final solution of internal Russian political disagreements on the issue.
The revenue from the charges are fed into Aeroflot, and a shortfall would deal a blot the airline's sustained fleet modernisation.
