Nov 12, 2007 (newstodate): In what is probably the single largest aircraft commitment ever, Emirates has placed aircraft orders worth some USD23.4 billion.
And this will even rise to USD34.9 billion if the 50 options included in the deal are utilised.
The firm contract comprises 81 Airbus wide-body aircraft - 50 Airbus A350XWB 900 plus 20 A350XWB 1000, and 11 additional A380, bringing its total firm order for the A380 to 58.
The Airbus contract also comprises 50 options for the A350-900. The first A350 will be delivered to Emirates in 2014.
The contract with Boeing is for 12 firm orders of the 777-300ER, valued at USD3.2 billion.
With this new order, Emirates now has 57 Boeing 777s pending delivery and is set to become the worlds largest 777 operator in the next few years.
