Oct 11, 2007 (newstodate): SAS has no intention to follow other Western airlines in moving from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Domodedovo Airport.
Next on Domodedovo's agenda is Star Alliance-member Lufthansa that has announced its move from Sheremetyevo from next summer's schedule.
-One thing is airline alliance membership, another is the reality of traffic rights, says Marek Pedersen, SAS director Russia and CIS.
-We have opted for the strategy of staying close to Aeroflot that provides us with favorable onward connections via Moscow and St Petersburg based on our code-share agreements on flights between Scandinavia and Russia.
-This cooperation will allow us soon to increase the number of services from Stockholm and Copenhagen to Moscow and St Petersburg.
-There are of course many interesting destinations in a huge market like Russia. But I doubt that we would obtain the economy needed, given the limited market base if we did it on our own, not to mention the issues of obtaining traffic rights.
