Oct 29, 2007 (newstodate): The EU Commission has given its green light to the public financing of infrastructure development at the Polish Rzeszov Jasionka Airport.
An international airport in southeastern Poland with a 3,200 m runway, Rzeszow Jasionka Airport is the seventh-busiest airport in Poland, has become the third airport in Poland with transatlantic connections since the start of LOT's new route to New York from June 2, 2007.
The regional government will now finance the modernisation and expansion of the airports infrastructure, estimated to cost some 1.6 mio euro of which the state will provide 49 percent.
Construction work on a new passenger terminal started in September, 2006.
The airport is also expected a significant growth in aircargo volumes, up to 32,000 tonnes by 2010.
