Oct 17, 2007 (newstodate): Norrkoping Airport is focussing all attention on the first Icelandair Cargo freighter to arrive around noon, October 17.
-We have handled Icelandair Cargo freighters at Norrkoping Airport for many years, but until today the carrier has only operated on the import side, bringing Icelandic horses to the airport, says Jorgen Nilsson, Norrkoping Airport marketing manager.
-We are keen to seize this opportunity to prove to Icelandair Cargo that we are as capable to handle export shipments as well, and that a decision to maintain its weekly North Atlantic export freighter here would make sense.
-We are fully aware that carriers shift cargo operations swiftly, but this is at least a chance for us to demonstrate our airport's capability and favorable location in the Swedish market, says Mr Nilsson.
The carrier originally planned to operate its new freighter service from Stockholm Arlanda Airport but had to move to Norrkoping at short notice as Arlanda proved unable to handle the incoming live animals shipments.
