Oct 26, 2007 (newstodate): A new Russian mid-range commercial jet aircraft is taking shape - the MS-21.
Jointly developed by Ilyushin, Tupolev and Yakovlev, the MS-21 is still in the design phase aiming at lauch of mass production by 2015, with plans for an output of up to 100 aircraft per month, given a positive response in the market.
Ths MS-21 is being positioned as a replacement of the TU-154 aircraft that now performs around 80 percent of all cargo and passenger flights in Russia.
The MS-21 is designed in three versions, corrsponding to aircraft the size of Airbus A318, A319 and A320.
So far no orders have been landed, though.
