Oct 19, 2007 (newstodate): Moscow Domodedovo Airport is keen to see cargo volumes rising.
-Only four-five years ago the situation was different, with many cargo charter operations at DME lifting up to 20,000 tonnes per months. This has changed, says Evgeny Raevskiy, Moscow Domodedovo Airport director cargo.
-This has definitely changed with the market. Today most cargo is carried in aircraft belly holds on passenger flights, and the volume of cargo charters has decreased.
-While passenger flights to the Far East are mostly fully packed, offering little capacity for cargo, the trend is now emerging for passenger aircraft from the Far East to go through Moscow with transfer cargo for Russia, primarily destined for Siberia and other regions.
-Earlier, Moscow was traditionally the point of destination for the incoming cargo, with only 2-3 percent entering as transfer cargo. Now this percentage is growing and will probably reach up to 15 percent within only a few years says mr Raevskyi.
