Oct 25, 2007 (newstodate): More freighter operations is the key to growth in air cargo volumes at Moscow Domodedovo Airport.
-Our traffic is currently strongly dominated by passenger aircraft with limited belly cargo capacity, says Engeny Raevskiy, Moscow Domodedovo Airport director cargo.
-We handle about 11-12,000 tonnes of air cargo per month, of which 9-10,000 tonnnes is belly cargo and the remaining 2-3,000 tonnes is cargo on freighter aircraft.
-International cargo accounts for 40 percent of the volume, domestic cargo for 55-57 percent, and transfer cargo for 3-5 percent.
-Our plans for construction of a new terminal capacity and the establishment of a cargo village aim at providing the basis for attracting freighter operators to Moscow Domodedovo Airport, including foreign companies, and we are in talks with a few already, says Mr Raevskiy.
