Oct 18, 2007 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport is heading towards a record in tonnages in 2007.
During January-September, the airport generated a total of 13,176 tonnes of cargo and mail, corresponding to an increase by 82.2 percent, y-o-y.
The cargo volume was dominated by imports, constituting 92.5 percent and increasing by 99 percent during the period. Exports constituting the remaining 7.5 percent, also increased by 20.2 percent.
The significant volume growth was especially driven by cargo charter operations carrying 74 percent of the loads comprising almost solely import shipments.
Only 12 percent of the total cargo volumes were carried on scheduled passenger services.
