Oct 16, 2007 (newstodate): A sharp decline in Iceland's exports drives Icelandair Cargo's September figures down.
In September the carrier's total volumes dropped 10.8 percent, y-o-y, to 3,375 tonnes.
Imports to Iceland and transit volumes grew considerably by 19.4 and 4.4 percent, respectively, but exports from Iceland decreased by 15.6 percent.
For the first nine months of 2007, Icelandair Cargo carried a total of 31,425 tonnes, an increase by 6.9 percent, y-o-y.
Imports grew by 13,4 percent and transit by 27,8 percent but exports declined by 3,5 percent.
Icelandair Cargo has earlier announced a strategy to become less dependent of the volatile and small home market, aiming instead to become a major player in a European context after receiving the four Airbus A330-200 freighter aircraft ordered in May 2007, with first two deliveries by Spring, 2010.
