Oct 24, 2007 (newstodate): In its latest forecast, IATA foresees a sustained strong growth in world cargo volumes by 2011.
IATA estimates the air transport industry to handle 36 million tonnes of international freight in 2001, 7.5 million tonnes more than in 2006.
International freight volumes are expected to grow 4.8 percent annually over the forecast period, supported by economic growth, globalisation and trade.
But strong price competition from other modes of transport is expected to keep freight demand growth below the annual 6.2 percent growth recorded for 2002-2006.
