Oct 26, 2007 (newstodate): Operators of direct flights between Scandinavia and Iraqi Kurdistan are now seeing lights ahead for lifting the ban imposed since August this year.
The Danish CAA has reportedly now revoked its ban on flights to Erbil and Sulaimaniyah, and expectations are that the Swedish authorities will follow suit shortly.
Representatives from Iraqi civil aviation authorities are meeting today with their Swedish counterparts in Norrkoping, and a final approval by the Swedish authorities of resumption of direct air services is expected any time now.
-We hope this means that the problems have finally found their solutions, says Beshar Abbas, Rejs Nu VP.
The Swedish CAA banned all direct flights between Sweden and Iraq, including the weekly Nordic Airways flight to Sulaimaniyah and the four times-weekly flights by Viking Airlines to Erbil.
The ban also put plans by Rejs Nu for direct flights to Basra on hold.
