Oct 10, 2007 (newstodate): Stockholm Arlanda is keen to find a solution to the problem that has caused Icelandair Cargo to postpone its launch of a freighter service to the USA via Keflavik.
Icelandair Cargo originally planned to start the weekly Boeing 757-200F operation from today, October 10, but has now instead moved the operation to Norrkoping Airport.
-We had not expected Icelandair Cargo to fly in horses to Stockholm Arlanda as it has so far operated these flights to Norrkoping, says Karsten Bjarbo, LFV Stockholm Arlanda cargo manager.
-We do have a BIP in place, but to handle horses a special license and special facilities are needed, and we renounced this business one year ago as it would entail fresh investments that were not deemed necessary.
-Now we are to seek a temporary license to allow us to start the Icelandair Cargo operation if they decide to carry horses into Stockholm Arlanda. To obtain a permanent license will take at least six months, and we will then have to build the facility as required.
-We are indeed keen to see Icelandair Cargo start the export route from Stockholm Arlanda, so we will provide the investment needed, even if imports of horses will remain a marginal business in itself, says Mr Bjarbo.
