Jan 4, 2007 (newstodate): Despite efforts by several parties, Sweden was not deemed eligible to be included in IATA's e-freight pilot project starting from this year.
Sweden was turned down from participating in at least the first phase as it does not have a sufficient number of routes to other markets to be selected for participation in the pilot project.
In 2004, IATA launched the e-freight project, designed to eliminate the need to produce and transport paper documents for air cargo shipments by moving to a more simple, industry-wide, electronic, paper-free environment.
IATA e-freight pilot projects are to be initiated on key trade routes between five countries from 2007, aiming at 100 percent implementation of e-freight by 2010, where viable.
