Jan 9, 2007 (newstodate): EU Cultural Capital in 2007, Romanian city Sibiu/Hermannstadt declares to be on target with its airport modernisation projects.
-The project for the construction of a new passenger terminal with a planned capacity of 500,000 passengers, and options for later expansion, will be ready by May, 2007, says Martin Bottesch, Sibiu Airport.
-A runway extension from currently 2,000 to 3,000 meter with new runway lighting and other systems will also be completed by the end of this year, and we are building a new tower with ATM systems provided by Romatsa authorities after a tender organised by the County Council of Sibiu, says Mr Bottesch.
Air cargo facilities will be targetted at a later stage of the project that will also enjoy EU financial support
