Jan 16, 2007 (newstodate): Air cargo volumes at Riga Airport, Latvia, are fluctuating from year to year.
In 2006, the airport saw volumes down by 21 percent, to 12,559 tonnes.
-The air cargo market in Latvia is quite weak. The big increase in 2005 was due to some cargo charters where the cargo was trucked further to Russia, says Liene Freivalde, Riga Airport marketing department director.
-Lack of facilities is also a reason but it was not better in 2005. In 2007 there are several cargo agents who have built up new cargo facilities so we look forward to a better year in cargo operations, says Ms Freivalde.
