Jan 31, 2007 (newstodate): Aviacor, Samara International Aviation Corporation, is reportedly in talks with Bombardier over a cooperation in the aircraft manufacturing industry.
Plans are to let Aviacor assemble the Bombardier Q300 aircraft at the plant in Samara, and if they materialise this will become the first example of production in Russia of western aircraft.
The Bombardier aircraft could play an important role in filling Russia's urgent needs for replacing its current fleet of regional aircraft, the average age of which is 30 years.
The business plan builds on the assumption that by assembling the aircraft in Russia, future Russian customers could avoid the excessive import taxes levied by the state on imported western aircraft.
