Jan 3, 2007 (newstodate): The Ekaterinburg-based carrier Ural Airlines has joined the prestigeous "upper ten" group of Russian airlines.
For the first time in its history, the airline carried one million passengers in 2006, and budgets for 1.2 million in 2007.
Ural Airlines attributes its succes to a succesful lowering of rates after forcing jet fuel prices at home base Koltsovo Airport down in 2006, and the introduction of more efficient aircraft including the Airbus A320, the first of which was introduced in late November.
