Jan 12, 2007 (newstodate): Iceland's Keflavik Airport may become a military training site for the Danish air force.
According to statements by the Danish minister of defence to Icelandic media, Denmark does not exclude the possibility of participating in the regular surveillance of Iceland on behalf of NATO, but he stressed that no concrete plans are on the table now.
Denmark has a high presence in the region due to its sovereignty over Greenland.
Danish participation in the surveillance of Iceland's territory and air space might compensate for the withdrawal, last year, of the US military presence at Keflavik.
