Jan 3, 2007 (newstodate): Air India and Serbia's JAT have reportedly decided to establish a JV to form a new airline and enter a strategic partnership.
Under the partnership, Air India will assist JAT in defining its future aircraft fleet plannning while also sending its pilots for training at JAT's facilities in Belgrade.
Also the two parties will open new routes between Belgrade and Mumbai, and the source says Air India will fly from Mumbai to USA and Canada via Belgrade, solving JAT's long-standing problem with obtaining traffic rights to USA that still retains Serbia as a category 2 country as to air safety.
JAT currently code-shares with Emirates to the USA via Hamburg, commuting passengers between Belgrade and Hamburg.
