Jan 24, 2007 (newstodate): 2006 was a good year for Icelandair Cargo that ended with a 13.8 percent increase in cargo loads, to 41,000 tonnes.
Growth in the carrier's import loads to Iceland was 11.3 percent, exports grew 10.6 percent, and transit cargo was up 28.5 percent.
-Icelandair Cargo also had a larger scheduled traffic than ever before. During 2006 Brussels, Jonkoping, Malmo and Charlotte were added to the schedule, and the number of flights to Halifax grew by 25 percent, says Petur J Eiriksson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-In December there was a 17 percent growth in freight moved on Icelandair Cargo's scheduled services. Most of the gain came from transit freight between Europe and North America, but the company also saw robust growth in tonnages into and out of Iceland. The total tonnage, excluding charters, was 3.800 in December, says M;r Eiriksson.
In 2006, two Boeing 757-200 freighters were added to the fleet, one in June and one in November, giving a total of five Boeing 757 aircraft.
Three aircraft are wet-leased to TNT on weekdays but utilized by Icelandair Cargo on weekends for scheduled services or charters.
