Jan 18, 2007 (newstodate): Russia's first low-cost carrier, SkyExpress, has now been granted its operational license, and plans to take to the air from the start of February.
-Russias Government has awarded SkyExpress its operating license and approved services to four initial destinations Sochi, Rostov, Tyumen and Murmansk, says Vitaly Korenyugin, SkyExpress communications manager.
-SkyExpress will begin twice-daily services from Moscow Vnukovo to Sochi and Rostov-on-Don from the beginning of February. These frequencies will subsequently rise to six- and four-times daily, respectively.
-Under the terms of the five-year license, SkyExpress has also been given approval to operate to Tyumen and Murmansk as well as supplementary rights to conduct internal and international charter flights, says Mr Korenyugin.
On January 17, SkyExpress received its second Boeing 737 aircraft on a five-years lease agreement, and on-line sales are expected to be opened from tomorrow, January 19, with a flight to Sochi as the inaugural flight on February 1..
