Jan 17, 2007 (newstodate): A FedEx DC-10 freighter has become the world's first commercial aircraft fitted with an anti-missile defence system.
The aircraft's system Guardian, provided by Northrop Grumman, will detect hostile missile firings and directs a laser beam to interfere with the missile's guidance system.
After a test period expiring by spring, 2008, FedEx plans to equip all its wide-body freighters with Guardian systems.
