Sep 28, 2006 (newstodate): The world's largest commercial aircraft, the AN-225 Mriya freighter will have a belated twin sister.
Two AN-225 aircraft were originally built, but only one is flying, operated by Air Foyle HeavyLift that has long been waiting for a second aircraft.
According to the Ukrainean transport minister, work on the second AN-225 will be completed by 2008.
The AN-225 will remain the world's largest aircraft even after the introduction into service of the Airbus A380, offering the unsurpassed capacity of lifting up to 250 tonnes of outsize air cargo over 4,000 km, and requiring 3,500 m runway to lift off with full loads.
