Sep 12, 2006 (newstodate): Only half of Russia's fleet of commercial aircraft comply with IACO's requirements for onboard collision warning systems.
According to ICAO Annex 6, after January 1, 2005, all turboprop aircraft with a take-off weight above 7,500 tonnes and carrying more than 19 passengers must be equipped with anti-collision warning systems.
This requirment is not, however, met by 50 percent of all commercial aircraft operated by Russian airlines, and by less than 50 percent by military aircraft.
Even the increasing use of western-built commercial aircraft in Russia, equipped with these systems, does not remedy the situation as they will not detect aircraft that are not equally equipped.
