Sep 15, 2006 (newstodate): Warsaw-based Polish airline and ACMI provider, White Eagle Aviation is pursuing an ambitious strategy for growth.
Currently operating a fleet of three ATR-42 aircraft, including two QCs, placed with operators in Southern Europe, the privately- owned company is expecting the delivery of its fourth ATR-42 within two to three weeks, and plans are to convert one of these into a freighter aircraft by early next year.
-The market is crying for full-freighters, but they are hard to get at these says, says Piotr Kaczanowski, WEA sales & marketing manager.
-Still, we are driven by projects, so if our customers request freighters, we will lease in any aircraft needed. Our focus in on markets in South Europe, Scandinavia, and increasingly on Central and Western Africa, he says.
But the company is not restricting itself to the market for regional aircraft.
-We are about to enter the long-haul market as well, expecting to receive our first Lockheed L-1011 aircraft, currently undergoing a C-check, by November this year. As it will be the first of its type on Polish registry, it will require some time to finish all paperwork. But we expect to introduce this aircraft in commercial service by, say, February 2007, says Mr Kaczanowski.
-We will probably operate three to five aircraft of this type before the end of 2007 on our own AOC, providing charter flights, military troop transports, cargo and aid support operations.
Further down the line, White Eagle Aviation foresees replacing the L-1011 with a similar number of Boeing 747-200 aircraft, one of which could be a pure freighter or a Combi version.
