Sep 1, 2006 (newstodate): The total volume of fresh Norwegian salmon flown to the Japanese market dropped in 2006.
During the period January-July, Norway exported a total of 10,272 tonnes of salmon to Japan, down 16.1 percent on the same period last year.
Japan remains Norway's single largest market for fresh salmon export, with over half of the total, but the Japanese market is stagnating as also evinced by the latest statistics.
Freighter uplift capacity out of Norway has, however, been dramatically increased over the last few years, with the Lufthans Cargo/Japan Airlines Cargo freighter from Oslo to Nagoya since September last year as the latest addition.
In March, 2004, Korean Air Cargo started its twice-weekly freighter service from Oslo to Seoul, and Aeroflot has been operating a twice-weekly service to Japan since May, 2002.
