Sep 20, 2006 (newstodate): Plans are underway for opening a tender for privatisation of central Bulgaria's Plovdiv Airport.
-The Ministry of Transportation will decide on the procedures concerning concession to manage the airport, but we hope that a tender may be launched before the end of this year, says Plamen Niklov, Plovdiv Airport executive director.
The airport's 2,500 m runway allows for traffic with Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and 757 as well as IL-86 and Airbus A310, while operations with AN-124 are performed with weight penalties.
In the airport's plans are construction of a new passenger terminal, as well as construction of a new cargo terminal to replace the four 360 sq m cargo storages now offered.
Among the airport's cargo loads are exports of vegetables, live animals and military equipment.
