Sep 12, 2006 (newstodate): The issue of forwarders' use of e-booking systems towards airlines remains a problem.
-In 2004 the most widely used electronic tool in the Nordic region, Tradevision became able to receive e-bookings of our td-products as well as the introduction of GF-X, a web based booking tool, so we expected to see a significant increase in the proportion of e-bookings that stood at some 10 percent. This, however, never happened, says Michael Schoop, Lufthansa Cargo manager Denmark.
-The percentage has changed little since then, and I am afraid we have to settle with that for the time being. The systems are there, they have proved their efficiency, but forwarders still do not trust them and prefer to book their shipments by traditional means.
-We have thus set up our call center to relieve the office from handling the more uncomplicated issues and bookings, and we are also not pressing hard in the market to grow the e-bookings. I am convinced e-bookings will win eventually - but it is obviously still not the time, whatever the reason, says Mr Schoop.
