Sep 7, 2006 (newstodate): Tirana Airport, Albania, is seeing its cargo and mail volumes growing.
In 2005, the airport generated a total of 2,117 tonnes of cargo, up up 35.8 percent, while mail volumes were up 9.2 percent to 284 tonnes.
By March 2007, Tirana Airport will open a new 1,030 sq m cargo terminal, now under construction, to include cold storage, dedicated room for dangerous goods, a safe for valuables, and a temterature-controlled room for plants and perishables.
Tirana Airport is managed by Tirana International Airport, TIA, founded by HOCHTIEF AirPort, DEG, and the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund with a concession to operate the airport for 20 years.
TIA is handling agent for British Airways, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Olympic Airways, Adria Airways, Malev, Turkish Airlines, Albanian Airlines, Hemus Air, Club air, Albatros, Belleair, Jat Airways, CSA and Malev.
