Aug 29, 2006 (newstodate): The process for construction of new airport facilities and infrastructure at Zagreb Airport, Croatia, is continuing, albeit with delays.
The airport had hoped to open a new public tender for construction of a long-awaited new passenger terminal in 2006, but the process is now expected to start in 2007, with construction work to begin from first half of 2008, and completion of the works by 2010 or early 2011.
-The dealy is mainly caused by the complex processes of documentation, licensing, juridical issues and political decision-making, says Damir Vince, Zagreb Airport adviser to the general manager.
The planned passenger terminal will be built in modules allowing for expansions from initially 3.3 mio to up to six mio passengers when fully expanded.
Also in the plans is a CAT IIIB runway extension to 3,500 m, with potentials for construction of a second runway longer into the future.
Zagreb Airport also expects to construct a new cargo terminal after expansion of the current facilities, and a separate terminal for courier and express operators is also on the drawing-board.
Work on the planned cargo terminals will also require an open tender, the date for which is still not settled either.
