Aug 17, 2006 (newstodate): Tajikistan is keen to develop its civil aviation.
The country will need a new passenger terminal at the capital Dushanbe Airport, and the national, state-owned airline Tajikistan Airlines has formed a committee to study a new terminal in Khujand Airport, built in 2004 and preparing to open within the next two weeks.
The airline has also contracted Ernst & Young to provide consultation on a renewal of the aircraft fleet, sources say.
In late 2004 the EBRD Board approved a loan of USD5 million for Tajikistan Airlines to cover expenses related to the airline's plan to lease two or more relatively new Western-built aircraft to replace the company's current fleet of ageing YAK-40 and other aircraft.
