Aug 9, 2006 (newstodate): In the period January-June, 2006, air cargo at Riga Airport was reportedly down by 41.5 percent y-o-y, from 10,016 to 5,859 tonnes.
Among the major differences between 2006 and 2005 is the decline in the large loads of Chinese transit shipments destined for Russia, from 7,275 tonnes during January-June, 2005, down to 2,879 tonnes during H1, 2006.
-This means that, excluding the China-Russia traffic, the airport's core cargo volumes remained practically unchanged from H1 2005 to H1 2006, says an observer in the industry.
Riga Airport's statistics on air cargo do not include trucked volumes, rendering comparisons with other Baltic airports very difficult.
