Aug 1, 2006 (newstodate): Hong Kong has signed new air service agreements with France, Germany and Russia allowing airlines of these countries to increase volumes of flights to Hong Kong.
The agreements are expected to boost cargo traffic through Russian airspace between Hong Kong and Europe.
Hong Kong and Russia will almost double the number of flights, enabling airlines of the two countries to operate up to 34 flights per week.
Cathay Pacific and other Hong Kong-based carriers will increase the total weekly number of flights from 100 to 230 through Russia's airspace.
Under the new agreement Hong Kong and France will allow their airlines to operate 20 weekly flights against the current 13 between the two countries, providing immediate benefits for especially the KLM/Air France Group.
The new agreement with Germany will up capacity on routes between the two parties by 25 percent, to 31 weekly passenger and cargo flights.
