Aug 10, 2006 (newstodate): Kazakhstan expects its civil aviation to grow by 600 percent over the coming 10 years.
Its national airline Air Astana is expected to grow its passenger volumes by 30 percent in 2007, from this year's two to three million passengers.
To meet this increased demand for domestic air transportation the government plans to invest heavily in airport reconstruction and modernisation.
Among the aiports to be upgraded are Pavlodar, Kyzylorda, Kostanai and Shymkent.
Shymkent Airport will be equipped with new technology and infrastructure to attain a higher category enabling it to compete with Tashkent airport.
