Aug 30, 2006 (newstodate): By Mid-September, Finavia will start construction work on an extension of the passenger terminal at Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
Finavia will also establish a new bagage handling center, both facilities to handle the increasing volumes of Finnair's Asian traffic.
Once the extension is complete, there will be eight passenger loading bridges for wide-bodied aircraft at Helsinki-Vantaa instead of the current five, og which only two can accommodate Airbus A340 and A350 aircraft.
Once completed in 2009, the extended international terminal will be able to accommodate 15 million passengers and 13.5 million pieces of baggage a year, compared to today's 11.5 million passengers and 8.5 million pieces of baggage.
