Aug 18, 2006 (newstodate): Despite a slight decrease by 0.7 percent in cargo volumes in July, Oslo Gardermoen Airport still claims a strong over-all performance in 2006.
During January-July, the airport generated a total of 50,624 tonnes of international and domestic cargo, up 7.1 percent on last year.
International cargo alone grew by 11.1 percent to 36,889 tonnes.
In July total volumes accrued to 6,229 tonnes, of which 4,526 tonnes was international airfreight, unchanged against last year.
The strong growth so far this year was produced during January-March when the increase over last year was as high as 20.8 percent.
This demonstrates the airport's heavy dependance on a single export commodity that finds one of its high seasons during this period: the fresh Norwegian salmon heading for booming markets in the Far East.
