Aug 16, 2006 (newstodate): After a long period of vacillating negotiations with SAS Cargo/Spirit, a Letter of Intent has now been signed, securing construction of a new SAS Cargo/Spirit terminal at Stockholm Arlanda.
The new terminal will be opened by February 1, 2008, but the start of construction works will depends on final settlement of a range of issues.
-First, we are still negotiating the exact location of the new terminal, but all parties, however, agree that NAP as the party to build and rent out the premises will locate the SAS Cargo terminal in the current Arlanda Cargo City area, near its competitor Cargo Centre, to reduce internal transfers and multiple handling to a minimum, says Karsten Bjarbo, LFV Stockholm Arlanda cargo manager.
-Also SAS Cargo/Spirit still has to define the functionalities expected with the new cargo terminal, and all these issues will have a bearing on the final freezing of the eventual concept that will then materialise in the design phase including the exact size and lay-out.
NAP - a JV between Swedish LFV and Airis -has long held a plan for the construction of a 20-25,000 sq.m. terminal to be dedicated to SAS Cargo, but this may be divided into separate phases to secure future expansion.
