Jul 31, 2006 (newstodate): West Air Sweden has signed a contract with BAE Systems for lease of more ATP freighter capacity.
Under the contract the carrier will lease a further two ATP aircraft, equipped with the Large Freight Door from Baneasa, Romania.
The aircraft will be delivered in August and September, respectively.
The contract is driven by West Air Sweden's recent succesful bid in Swedish Post Office's tender for overnight mail services, taking effect from October 28.
With the new aircraft, West Air Sweden will replace the BAe 748 and Falcon Air Boeing 737-300 aircraft currently used by the Swedish Post, consolidating the overnight postal flights to an all-ATP freighter operation.
West Air Sweden also won the contract with Norway's postal services, requiring the stationing of five ATP freighters in Norway to serve eight routes.
West Air Sweden thus also recently acquired a further three ATP aircraft from the Danish airline Sun-Air. These aircraft are currently being converted into E-class bulk freight interiors ahead of the start of Norwegian operations from October 28.
With these latest fleet additions, West Air Sweden wil operate a total of 18 aircraft.
