Jul 31, 2006 (newstodate): Serbia is preparing to open a new international tender for the construction of a new cargo terminal at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla International Airport.
The new cargo complex will reportedly be built within the airport area.
Already in 2004 the US Trade and Development Agency donated USD800,000 to initiate a feasibility study for Belgrade Airport to become a regional center for cargo air traffic, and US company DynCorp later won a first tender in 2005, the outcome of which was later disputed by Swiss-Israeli company Swissport and Angel.
In 2005 the airport generated a modest total of 8,000 tonnes of cargo, but since then volumes have been steadily growing, and a massive increase is expected in the future.
