Jul 6, 2006 (newstodate): Loftleidir Icelandic, the charter and ACMI-marketing subsidiary of the Icelandair Group, has bought majority of the shares in the Latvian charter operator Latcharter Airlines and committed to acquire the remaining shares in the future.
The acquisition comes as a result of the ongoing cooperation between the two companies announced earlier this year and is part of Loftleidir Icelandic strategy to strengthen its position in the Baltic and CIS region as well as adding the Airbus family into its ACMI product line.
Loftleidir Icelandic currently wet-leases four Boeing 757-200 and two Boeing 767-300 aircraft to customers in South and North America, Europe and in The Middle East.
Set up in 1992, LatCharter operates two Airbus-A320 aircraft.
